Books Table Lamp

HGTV provides a detailed tutorial for making a lamp out of a stack of old books. It definitely would add a lot of charm to a room!

Plastic Bag Heart Wreath

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we found this creative wreath made from old plastic shopping bags. Of course, ideally you would be using a reusable shopping bag at this point! But, if you can get ahold of some shopping bags this would be a perfect craft to make. I could see any color bag working, but I like the red and white color palette they’ve used here. Probably Target or the standard “Thank You” style bags?

Paint Swatch Boxes

Designer Jessica Jones shows how to make cute little boxes out of paint swatches. If you just got done redecorating and are ready to toss out the paint swatches, consider crafting with them instead. I wouldn’t recommend going out to get fresh paint swatches though, as that would just create more waste. Talk to your home improvement store to see what they do with old paint swatches if they discontinue a product line.

Frame Memory Board

If you have an old picture frame with nothing to display, consider turning it into a lovely memory or inspiration board like this from Houzz. Simply decorate it and add a piece of chicken wire to make an elegant display piece!

Vintage Suitcase Charging Station

Design Sponge shares an idea from SugarSCOUT to turn an old vintage suitcase into a unique and discreet charging station for your electronics! It would be perfect to hide modern devices in a room focused on vintage charm.

“Quilts” from Old Street Signs

To cover up unsightly air handling units near City Hall in Memphis, artist Greeley Myatt used decommissioned street signs to create an intricate patchwork wall.

Using about 700 speed-limit, caution, and stop signs (and even a few Memphis City Beautiful signs), Myatt designed traditional quilt patterns in 4-by-12 foot panels. The panels, visible from Front Street and Adams Avenue, hide a chain-link fence and City Hall’s heating and cooling system.

Oversized Crepe Paper Rose

I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for things that are bigger or smaller than their expected sizes. Tiny mug? Sure. Giant pen? I’m all about it. That’s why I was struck by this lovely oversized crepe paper flower. It looks easy enough to make, and Green Wedding Shoes has provided a wonderfully detailed tutorial.

Birds on a Wire Framed Art

Similar to the posters we created for Creativity Collective, Sweet Verbena reuses  dictionary pages to create visually appealing framed artwork. Follow the link for a detailed tutorial on how you can recreate this concept. She totally put a bird on it.

Bell Peppers for Veggie Dip

I just really like this idea of using bell peppers as an all natural, edible holder for dipping sauce on a veggie platter. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but it leaves you with no waste!

Teddy Bear Basket

I’m not sure if this teddy bear basket is cute or sadistic, but it involves mutilating a helpless teddy bear. Even so, I kinda like it.
